Holo!! So over my Christmas vacation I retook my driving exam for my permit after failing it the first time and I passed! I was so happy. So my mom made an appointment at the dmv for that friday. When we got there the lady took my information and told me to look into the vision test machine and read the letters all the way across. So when I looked into it I only saw the letters on the left side so they were the only ones I read. The lady told me there was four more letters and I only read eight. So I looked again and read across the same letters. I even looked into a different machine and it was the same. So she let my mom look into it and read the letters and she saw all of them. So instantly she knew something was wrong and took me to the doctor right after we left.
When we got in the waiting room she said try covering your left eye and see if you can see. When I did everything was really blurry and I couldn't see. I mean I couldn't read or anything. It was like there was something circular covering my eye in the middle. Later we saw the doctor and he though it was just a faulty test which was what I thought before I realized there was something wrong. He ran some tests and let me read those letters and of course I couldn't see any of them in my right eye and could see them perfectly with the other. He ended up referring me to a retina specialist I'd seen previously cause he had no idea what it was. We got to the retina specialist's office at 3:30pm which was the time of my appointment............we didn't leave until 6:00pm. The funny thing about this place is that there are A BUNCH of old people there. Like that's all there is.
Well you can infer that there was some weirdness like the old man I was sitting next to was very nosey and when the receptionist opened the little window he almost broke his neck trying to look inside it and when I looked in my purse his eyes were on it like it had bomb in it. Then there was a old lady that kept walking up to the receptionist with a paper from the dmv and she kept trying to give it to her. She did that three times. Each time the lady told her she needs to be seen because she has an appointment and that she has to turn the paper in to the dmv and she says, "What?! What is that?!". I think she was foreign. Finally her little friend told her to stop going up there and wait to be seen because she was going to make her aggravated. And get this that weird lady was 95!
Well back to the point of this. So finally I was seen and they ran a bunch of tests yada yada. The lady was annoying me because she kept trying to get me to read things from this book and those retched letters. I wanted to shake her and tell her look lady I just can't see it! Then, I had to get injected with this dye that turns your pee highlighter yellow and makes you see red literally. The guy started to inject it and somehow blew one of my veins. I could feel the blood run down my arm but in my mind I pretended it was the dye. So he tried again. Blew another one. Two in the same arm. So he tried the other arm and finally he didn't blow my vein. After he finished taking the pictures everything was red. I'd had this dye before but I forgot about that part and it freaked me out at first.
Many minutes later I finally saw the doctor and he looked right at my eye and knew what it was. He said it's a macular scar which is what he said I had when I saw him 2 years ago. He told me that it's leaking and that's why my sight is distorted. He also said it might be able to be corrected with an injection. INJECTION!!!! Exact quote from me: "In my eye?!!!". Yup in my eyeball. He said he could do it then in the office but I was so scared and traumatized by the whole day I chickened out and opted for the milder option of being sedated in a surgery center. So he set it up and on Martin Luther king jr. Day I was getting my eyeball injected. It was actually not as scary as I thought it would be. The people were very nice and it all happened really fast. They hooked me up to all this junk, gave me on of those oxygen stick up your nose things, and a IV. As if I haven't been traumatized by needles enough this month. Let me tell you that IV hurt so bad going in mannn. My arm is still sore from that. When the nurse told me she was giving me and IV I was like "okay but can you put it in my left arm because they blew two of my veins in the other". She said okay and when she started to put it in she says, "oh you have a bruise in this arm too". I told her, "yeah I have a matching set". one of the nurses kept giving me eye drops to dilate my pupil. She put a lot though.
Later, the doctor came in who's name is Dr.Katz and asked me how I was doing. The anesthesiologist turned up my oxygen and started started to inject the anesthesia and she told me that it may sting. I saw the doctor with the needle and yeah that's it cause I feel asleep lol. I woke up and it felt like I was asleep for hours. As soon as it was over I checked to see if my eye was fixed. I covered my eye and I asked if it was supposed to be better already because everything looked normal as in no more little circle. I looked at my mom and asked her is "Dr. Kitty Kat gone?" lol. She laughed and said yeah. I asked her how long I was asleep and she told me for only a minute. Felt way longer though. After that they gave me peanut butter cookies and orange juice. Yum! When I finished they unhooked me from everything and I was off. The rest of the day was horrible and I'm not even gonna sugar coat it one bit. My eye started hurting really bad and I could barley open it so I just kept my eyes closed....the whole car ride....which was like 2 hours....even when I ate. My pupils were super dilated to the point where they were they were the size of my iris. Weird.... So they were very sensitive to any light. I took some extra strength tylenol they gave me from the surgery center and that made it better. But the shot made my eye EXTREMELY watery nonstop. It was like someone poked me in the eye really bad. Needless to say I was very miserable and laid down the rest of the day.
So as of today which is three days after the procedure my eyesight seems to be better in this eye but the spot is still there. It's not a huge difference but I believe it's better. I still probably won't be able to identify any letters because I can't with just that eye now but, time will tell. I have a follow up in February and I guess I'll be tortured again. But no matter what happens I'm going to be fine. I can still see 20/20 with both eyes and I just have to make sure I take care of my good eye which still sees perfectly. It's crazy how I can have this thing and you can meet me and never know I have it. But I see this as a test of my strengths. I didn't cry or freak out when I found out somethings wrong and I won't cry or freak out if it can't be fixed. I thank God for allowing me to find out about my condition because had I never went to get my permit I wouldn't have know until it got much worse. You like everyone else is probably wondering you never noticed? No. I don't walk around covering one eye and how often does anyone. It never changed my vision with both eyes so no I never noticed it. Bottom line I just see it as another bump in the rode as my mom's boss told me and I'm determined to get over it. Thank you for reading this uber long post lol.
